Apoorva Arora Explains What It Takes to Portray Unique Characters

Diverse roles in Hindi, Punjabi, Kannada and Gujarati have helped Apoorva master the craft of getting into the skin of demanding characters.
Behind the glamour and recognition that come with being an actor lie months of preparation—learning unfamiliar languages, adapting to new environments, and taking the necessary steps to fully embody a character. Apoorva Arora knows this journey all too well. She has walked this path not once or twice, but multiple times, for her roles in Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Punjabi, and Gujarati films.
While most Bollywood actors tend to stick to Hindi or English-language projects, Apoorva’s flair for versatility has always stood out. She has never shied away from accepting roles in regional languages.
“I grew up with a minor speech issue,” she shares. “It wasn’t severe, and nobody really noticed it—not even during my first film. But when I began learning new languages, my speech improved significantly. Although people didn’t know about it, I had to work extra hard to overcome it,” she adds, recalling her early struggles.
At one time, working in a film was considered a status symbol, and many established actors wouldn’t even consider appearing in series, short films, or music videos. However, the OTT boom post-pandemic has changed this landscape. Apoorva, in fact, was among the early adopters of varied formats.
“I don’t think too much about the format. What matters to me is what the story is trying to say. I’ve never been able to differentiate between platforms. Of course, every setup has its own style, but the way I function as an actor remains constant,” she explains.
Apoorva was initially known for her roles as the quintessential ‘girl next door,’ but she always aspired to do more.
“I broke out of that tag long ago. Ever since I started taking on diverse roles, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. There’s Badboli Bhavna, The Glitch on Girliyapa, a film called Motor Maachis Aur Cutter, and Khamosh Nazar Aate Hain. Some of these are yet to release, but I’ve always been clear—I don’t want to play the same kind of character twice,” she affirms.
Having faced the camera since the age of 12, Apoorva has worked across various mediums including advertisements, films, television shows, and music videos. Her work gained significant attention after her YouTube series Every School Romance went viral seven years ago. That moment proved to be a turning point.
“When it happened, I didn’t even realize how many views actually meant something. I only found out when my Instagram followers suddenly started growing. Someone told me it’s because the video had gone viral. I was thrilled by the doors it opened for me. That visibility worked wonders—when you have that kind of viewership, casting directors start trusting you more. It brought me better work and fresh opportunities,” Apoorva shares.
Now a firmly established name in the industry, Apoorva continues to impress with her range and authenticity. For young actors looking to follow in her footsteps, she offers some honest advice.
“Focus on telling stories. Even though you’re not the director, as an actor, it’s your job to contribute to the storytelling. It can’t just be about following instructions—you have to be a thinking actor, an intellectual one. That means reading, learning, exploring different art forms, and constantly expanding your perspective,” she says.
Apoorva Arora has proven that she’s more than just a familiar face—she’s a thoughtful, committed performer who immerses herself completely in her roles. With each project, she reaffirms her place in the industry, staying true to her individuality while fully embracing the transformative nature of her craft.
